A selection of photos taken during the Broadstone Community Speed Watch event on 29th April 2017.
On Saturday the 29th April Broadstone Community Speed Watch held a ‘Special Event’ to relaunch itself as a wholly independent Watch operation.
The day was without doubt a huge success. This entirely due to the outstanding efforts of the BCSW volunteers, Dorset Police, Local Businesses and the incredible interest and support received from members of our Broadstone community.
The Dorset Police CSW Unit, Dorset Police ‘No Excuses’ team, the Dorset Police Camera team and an information team provided additional interest for visitors, and many children and adults enjoyed sitting in the Police Patrol car lighting up the ‘Blues and Twos’ complete with siren.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, notably Michael Tomlinson M.P. (Mid Dorset & North Poole) and several representatives from Poole Borough Council, the Association of Dorset Watches, the Association of Poole Watches, Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch and members of Community Speed Watches from Corfe Mullen and Canford Heath.
In addition to our tent and displayed items, the BCSW volunteers had a busy time answering questions posed by interested Broadstone residents, and directing those residents with queries requiring more Police related responses to the Police Officers supporting our event.
Our Broadstone NPT Police officers also provided a Bicycle Security marking service which attracted a large number of local cyclists. Within a relatively short space of time some 47 bicycles were security marked and registered. Many thanks to the marking done by PCSO Kerrie Burns, PCSO Dan Cammell and PCSO James Somerville.
Finally, our Prize draw was successful in that 15 Prizes, donated by Broadstone businesses and others, were available and won. This raised a total of £293.50 which will set us on our way to equipping our Watch with the clothing and equipment necessary for our Watch to function.
The prize winning tickets were drawn by PCSO Kerrie Burns, and witnessed by BCSW team members. The lucky winners were notified on Monday 1st May 2017. The list of prizes and the businesses that donated these are shown on the prize winning list.
A good day for all, and sincere thanks to all those who made this event so memorable and so special. We look forward to seeing and meeting Broadstone residents when we are carrying out Community Speed Watch operations, so come and talk to us. We are doing this to reduce excessive speeding and this to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries on our roads in and around Broadstone.

Volunteers use hand-held devices to record and monitor details of motorists seen speeding and can also make a note of drivers suspected of using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
The police then send warning letters to these motorists and if drivers are persistently caught, they will be targeted by the Force’s No Excuse team.
The initiative gives local communities the opportunity to get actively involved in road safety, with teams operating in villages, towns and urban areas across Dorset to discourage motorists from speeding.
Please come along to this special event and meet your Broadstone Community Speed Watch team, meet representatives from Dorset Police, view police specialist vehicles, meet your Neighbourhood Police Team and have your bicycle security marked for free, enter the Prize Draw.
